"Heartbeat" - Semi-skeleten Close out Sale on the few remaining.
The
“d.freemont” ref. # 16601 with the open balance area for viewing ,
nick-named the “Heartbeat” is powered by an altered ETA 2824 –
automatic 25 jewel movement. The
standard top plate is removed and replaced with an engraved balance
bridge. This is a fine reliable movement even in standard form; however,
“d.freemont” adds value
by using the ETA
Elaboree movement which is highly decorated and resistsmagnetic and temperature changes.
Adding
value to the “Heartbeat,” d.freemontmakes use of a common feature of this ETA movement. The 2824 – has a hack feature ( permitting the second hand to
be stopped by retracting the crown ).This is a holdover from the military watches of the Great War,
which permitted synchronizing watches between field commanders and
artillery attack planning. The sweep second hand, if stopped at the
12 o’clock position, serves as a Semi - stop watch. There are two calibrated scales: the telemeter from 12 o’clock to
3 o’clock, and the tachymeter from 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock.
The
telemeter scale is calibrated in miles – with this scale an opposing
artillery commander could get the gunnery range by timing the flash of a
cannon to hearing the report.For
example: with the sweep stopped at the 12 o’clock position the field
commander could start the timing by pushing the crown home the instant he
would see the flash from a cannon in
the distance – then upon hearing the report, he would retract the crown
and read the calibrated scale which would give the
distance of the opposing artillery.This
feature can also be used to judge the distance of an approaching storm by
comparing lightning flashes to thunder.
The tachymeter scale is calibrated in miles per hour. The “Heartbeat” can check the accuracy of a speedometer by stopping
the second hand at the 12 o’clock position…. then, starting the second
hand by pushing in the crown just as you pass a measured mile-post, such
as those found on interstate highways. The crown would be retracted at the instant you pass the next mile-post… the sweep second hand would have stopped at the exact
average miles per hour traveled over the timed mile…providing an exact
direct reading in mph from the calibrated scale.
The
“Heartbeat” is loaded with extra features: The "Sapphire" crystal is very
durable resisting chipping and scratches. The screw down view back and all surfaces are sealed to provide 150
feet deep-water resistance.Notice
the porcelainized dial and numerals; large and easy to read. The entire
package is nested in an all stainless steel case
( 36 X 9 mm ).Each “Heartbeat” bears a serial number on the dial at the three
o’clock position.
