"Prescott"

This new watch was inspired by the five years I lived near Prescott, Arizona. Prescott is truly the comfort zone for my spirit and the memory of life as it is meant to be enjoyed. I found a place in the sun and a bed for my dreams in Prescott. As a tribute to this special place I have created my latest watch, the Prescott, to symbolize that life style.

My memories of the court house square and the ease of life on Whiskey Row are fulfilled in this new watch. I chose a pure white background for the dial, significant of the clean air and the emotional purity I experienced in Prescott. The clarity of the pure white dial contrasted by the precision of the black hands is a statement of the reality of the Prescott environment. Prescott does not crowd your thinking nor push you into a segmented world; Prescott allows you the freedom to believe in the non-provable and experience relationships without barriers. I chose using the Roman numerals as opposed to the Arabic style, because of the influential statue or that great empire. Prescott seemed to represent that Roman dignity in miniature.

The predictable mode of the Prescott is represented in the 26 jewel automatic movement I chose for this symbol of accuracy. The movement, the heart of the Prescott is adorned and embellished just like the cultural influence of the Prescott natives and the recognizable citizens of Yavapai County.  The Prescott is unique to watch making, a limited production, 50 pieces, each watch serial numbered. It is not well known that d.freemont cares for each of his customers personally. All sales are direct from the manufacturer, dfreemont, to the end user, the customer… no middle men or dealers.

There is an additional significance in the name, Freemont… David Freemont McCready is the creator of d.freemont watches. David’s middle name comes from his maternal grandmother’s side of the family – his middle name was spelled with two “e’s” by mistake on the birth certificate – it should have been simply Fremont. Yes, he was named after the famous John C. Freemont. Prescott has a memorial to John C, just a few blocks west of Whiskey Row on Gurley Street, at the Sharlot Hall Museum campus.

Prescott Arizona has a special meaning to me and everyone who has ever lived or visited Yavapai County understands that meaning. When I was about to move back to Pennsylvania, I had serious thoughts and a profound connection with Arizona and Prescott which I have recorded in this poem:


Arizona, My Home

Your heart beats with mine
My mind engages your sun
I lament your distance

Dry, sandy, rocky ridges
Climb to the lower pines
Dauntless is your attitude
My castle in the sky

I miss your instinct
I yearn for your limitlessness
You have cared for me like no other
I wish to be under your wing

When my day is done here
I find my need to return
Your east is my rising sun
The people are my horizon

Like a gathering of adventurers
You make us feel like one
The mystery of your mountains
Are defined by the desert sun

Heaped upon the rocks
Cactus will flourish
The Saguaro beckon
Like ancestors of old

Over here with us make your home
We have been waiting your return
I see their sturdy form
As I see them in a desert dream

Knowing I will never be in their
Family again... better to have dwelled
There and been called their kin
Then never to feel that warmth again

Life is full of failure in strength
Not in brawn but spirit
I could not face the trouble
It was easier to surrender than win

The desert to the south or east
The mountains of the north
The winds of the west
